Artist's statements can be notoriously difficult to write and often confoundingly pointless to read, especially when the artist hasn't learned how to tell their story. In this workshop, students will be invited to review and deconstruct several artist's statements from national and international artists. In small groups, students will analyze and evaluate examples, identify successful strategies, and recognize empty rhetoric. Through discussion and thoughtful consideration, students can begin to strategize how to approach their own artist statement with authenticity and substance.
